Luxury Destination Wedding at Domaine de Mont-Leuze

Perched high above Nice, overlooking the endless blue of the Mediterranean, the Domaine de Mont Leuze offers one of the most breathtaking views on the French Riviera. For Jessica and Kevin, it became the setting of an intimate and refined destination wedding in France, designed by the incredibly talented Ivory Romance.
With one hundred guests gathered from the United States and France, their celebration felt deeply international yet unmistakably Mediterranean. A symbolic ceremony suspended above the bay of Nice, soft Riviera light, elegant floral design, and an atmosphere that balanced emotion with sophistication, everything about this day reflected who they are.
Jessica, an emergency medicine physician with French roots, and Kevin, originally from Ohio and now based in Connecticut, chose the South of France not just for its beauty, but for its meaning. With family ties in Villeneuve-Loubet and summers spent along the coast, the French Riviera has always been part of Jessica’s story.

    Getting Ready with Intention

Both preparations took place at Mont-Leuze, yet each carried its own atmosphere.

Kevin was surrounded by his father, stepfather, and closest friends. At one point, he was still finishing his vows by the window. The light coming in from the hills was soft and directional, almost cinematic. He admitted feeling the weight of the day. That quiet nervousness that happens when everything you have planned for months is finally real.
Moments like that are why I never rush preparations. The in between matters. A groom adjusting his jacket. A breath before walking out. Sometimes the camera helps redirect the tension into presence. It becomes a pause rather than pressure.
Jessica prepared in the estate’s bridal suite, a room filled with antique details, folding gilded screens, porcelain accents, and a chaise lounge that felt made for portraiture. Her gown carried a dramatic train, more than a meter long, moving through the room like it belonged there.
Just before leaving for the ceremony, I always take a few minutes to photograph the design untouched. Florals at their peak. Tables perfectly set. It preserves the original vision before celebration transforms it.

The First Look & Ceremony Atmosphere

Before the symbolic ceremony overlooking the Bay of Nice, we planned an intimate first look. Jessica first shared this moment with her father. It was quiet, raw, and incredibly emotional. One of those exchanges that reminds you why destination weddings feel so powerful when family travels across continents to be there.
    Then came Kevin.
He had been slightly nervous during the morning preparations, focused on details and logistics. But the moment he saw Jessica in her gown, everything shifted. He was visibly moved, almost stunned, as if trying to take in the scale of the moment and the elegance of it all. The contrast between his Coppley tuxedo with its black shawl lapels and her long, sculptural train worked perfectly against the Riviera backdrop.
At the same time, the ceremony space was coming together on the balcony of Mont Leuze. The floral design framed the aisle in soft greens and whites, echoing the tones chosen for the bridal party. The dress code was cohesive without being rigid. Deep greens, tailored silhouettes, fluid fabrics. Effortless, elegant, intentional.
With the sea stretching out behind them and a soft overcast light that made every skin tone glow, the atmosphere felt refined but relaxed. Exactly what a French Riviera destination wedding should be.

    A Symbolic Ceremony Above Nice

The ceremony took place on the terrace overlooking the entire bay of Nice. A symbolic ceremony, personal and concise, which I always appreciate. It allows emotion to stay concentrated and sincere.
The sky was lightly overcast. On the French Riviera, that kind of light is a gift. It softens features, enhances skin tones, and keeps attention on faces rather than harsh shadows.
The bridesmaids wore variations of green, coordinated but relaxed. Ivory Romance curated a floral design that felt refined without being rigid.
At the end of the ceremony, I suggested Jessica and Kevin walk back through their guests once more before fully exiting. It gives couples a second wave of celebration and creates beautifully dynamic images. Small guidance like this makes a real difference in how a moment lives in photographs.

    A Couple Session in Chapters

Rather than setting aside one long portrait session, we chose with Antony, the videographer, to shoot Jessica and Kevin in small chapters throughout the day.
Just after the ceremony, while guests were still embracing on the terrace of Mont Leuze, we slipped away for a few quiet minutes. The light was soft, slightly overcast, perfect for natural, flattering portraits with the Bay of Nice stretching behind them. Those first frames were effortless. Adrenaline was still there, smiles were spontaneous, nothing felt staged.
Later, before dinner fully began, we carved out another short window. The energy had shifted. They were calmer, more grounded. We moved near the entrance gates of the château, where the iconic Mont Leuze signage creates a strong graphic frame. The contrast between Jessica’s flowing gown and Kevin’s sharp tuxedo felt almost cinematic.
And then, at night, everything changed.

When guests were heading toward the dance floor, we stepped out once more. This is often my favorite moment. The pressure of the timeline disappears. The couple has already lived the essential parts of their day. What remains is freedom.
That is where I introduce flash more deliberately. A slightly editorial edge. Stronger shadows. A different rhythm. It creates contrast within the gallery and gives depth to the visual story. Not just daylight romance, but something more layered.
Breaking the couple session into moments allows the story to breathe. Different lights, different moods, different energies. It also means Jessica and Kevin never felt absent from their own celebration.
For destination weddings on the French Riviera, especially at venues like Mont Leuze, this approach works beautifully. The setting evolves throughout the day. So should the photographs.

How I Approach a Wedding Day

Jessica and Kevin’s celebration did not look like this by chance.
The rhythm of the day, the short portrait sessions, the way the ceremony was positioned against the light, the atmosphere during the first dance, all of it comes from intention and preparation.
If you are curious about how I structure a wedding day, how I balance documentary moments with a more editorial approach, and what it truly means to have me by your side from start to finish, I invite you to explore my Experience page.
That is where I explain the philosophy behind the images.
